Mark started out on the St. Pete Florida club scene, more than 15 years ago, playing the trumpet at jam sessions around town. Already an accomplished singer guitarist, Mark
found the chance to sing and play a few tunes at The Driftwood Inn, on Sunset Beach. Mark recalls those days. "I was in heaven! I got 20 bucks a night and all the beers I could drink to play the same 17.5 songs over and over again. Each version was soaked in a couple more beers, and it
was the eighties, so things could get pretty weird by the end of the night!" In 1989 he moved to New York city in search of a dream as a recording artist. Soon after he arrived Mark could be found working as a street performer, in nostalgic places like Grand Central station, Penn Station and the South Street Seaport. His experiences there on the streets began to dramatically shape his already unique observational style of songwriting. The influence is obvious in songs
like, "I'll Play For You" a touching recollection of a gift of song to a homeless man on 42nd Street. In
"Just outside My Window", a bleak but perky peek, out into the urban blight surrounding him. While the New York years, 7 in all, didn't get him a recording contract, they did yield a debut CD, a wealth of experiences to draw from, and the confidence to plunge headfirst into his life. A life making a living off of music, by making music off of living. In the winter of 1996, with a man, his CD, and a van, the
Caffeine Tour was born. The years since have been an exciting and intense journey towards a self discovery that led to the revelation of many natural and timeless truths. Experience a unique
expression of life through the music and performance of Mark Firehammer. In his latest songs find answers to questions like
"Where Did We
Come From", and what is "The Good Life". The culture crushing declaration of "I Don't Need No Shelters", and "I'm Just
Lookin". The song "Forrest The Hitchhiking Cat" will make you laugh and "He Used to Have a Name" may make you cry.
.........in the words of Joni Mitchell, "laughing and crying, you know it's the same release." |
